Castagna - Chenin Blanc 2018

The Castagna's mission, is to make wine which is the expression of the place where it is grown, stylistically making classic old-world wine with new-world fruit.The vineyard is fully certified both organic and biodynamic and they are one of only four Australian producers invited to be a member of La Renaissance des Appellations an organic association founded by biodynamic pioneer Nicolas Joly which invite exclusively organic producers with outstanding quality and commitment.

This Chenin Blanc presents, hints of Chamomile tea develop into freshly picked honeysuckle with baked brioche notes. Apricot kernels surrounded by flavours of pink grapefruit and lemon pith. Australian lemon myrtle expressions layer upon grounding flavours like crystallised ginger and poached quince. This wine is a textural experience; it’s less about overwhelming you with explosions of fruit – more about exercising restraint and subtlety on the palate. Floral earthiness to it, like paper daisies or a freshly brewed cup of chamomile tea with honey but it’s juxtaposed with citrusy pink grapefruit notes.It’s complex and layered and finishes delightfully fresh.
