Spain has more acreage under grape cultivation than any other country in the world. Despite this, many of the vineyards are low yielding. In terms of world-wide wine production, Spain is third in the world, only behind France and Italy. The most notable planted grape varieties in Spain are Tempranillo and Garnacha. There are over 400 grape varieties that are native to Spain with majority of the wine production being made from about 20 different grape varieties.
