Domaine de Montille is not only one of the greatest Domaines in Burgundy, but one of the greatest Domaines in France. The winemaking is traditional - partial destemming followed by a relatively long maceration period. The wines are aged in oak barriques (20-30% new) and are bottled unfiltered. These are wonderfully elegant, harmonious wines that require at least five years bottle ageing to show at their very best.
Pommard 1er Cru "Les Pezerolles" 2013: Soft wood is present on the attractively fresh nose of spice, red currant and tea aromas. There is good detail to the rich, round and refined medium weight flavors that culminate in a firm and mildly austere finish where the supporting tannins exhibit a noticeable touch of asperity. Despite the slight edge this seems to work anyway even though I doubt that the balance will ever be ideal. Score: 88-91 Tasted: Apr 15, 2016 Drink: 2021+ Issue: 62 Allen Meadows - Burghound
