Grand Cru Classé goes BIO! Alain Moueix was the first top winemaker in Saint-Émilion to find the courage and openly commit to organic farming. Fonroque has been organically certified since 2006, and biodynamically certified by Biodyvin since 2008. Alain is the current president of the Biodynamic Viticulture Association.
In Bordeaux, 2018 is mentioned alongside the great vintages of the last decade, 2009, 2010, 2015, and 2016. Exceptionally well-balanced use of wood, with aromas of roasted chestnuts, pine nuts, and the smokiness of French oak. The floral and herbaceous notes are then introduced, beginning with violets and progressing to very clearly dried rosemary and juniper, before the very ripe red-fruity components of wild strawberries and heart cherries take over. On the palate, it's very fresh. The acid structure is incredible, capturing the power of this wine while also making you forget about its high alcohol content. Blueberry juice, dark cherries, and elderberries, all very ripe and with buttery enamel. Fine-grained tannins that have the potential to become silkier over time.
