Portugal

"As one of the classic old world wine countries, Portugal has its own strict system in terms of classifying wines from different regions across the country. DOCs in Portugal means only certain permitted grapes can grow in certain geographical areas with maximum vine yields to ensure the quality of the production. Meanwhile, Vinho Regional (Regional Wine) indicates more freedom in types of grape selected to grow and maximum vine yields. It does imply not so high quality of the production, although it enables the winemakers to be more creative as they can use grapes or blends that are not permitted in DOCs."
